Turkey seems to have lost interest in being part of the European Union, and this is due to the procrastination of the process and endless bureaucracies, for which Ankara accuses Brussels.
During a visit to China, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that his country is looking with interest to join BRICS, although since 1999 it has received the status of a candidate for the EU, but since that day any forward movement has been blocked.
"Of course we would like to become a member of BRICS. It can be a good alternative instead of EU. Let's see how things will go this year", said Fidan.
BRICS is a bloc of emerging economies that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and has recently admitted Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates as full members, while key leaders are Russia and China.
