Three teenage sisters who went missing while visiting their homeless father have been found dead near Leavenworth, in Chelan County, Washington, police confirmed Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the search continues for their 32-year-old father, who is accused of their kidnapping and murder.
The bodies of the Decker sisters — Paitin, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5 — were found late Monday night near their father's truck at a campground in Wenatchee. A Homeland Security helicopter was also searching the area, KIRO 7 reported.
Initially, Washington police did not issue an Amber Alert, stating that the criteria for a documented kidnapping or imminent danger to life were not met. Instead, a “Missing Person in Danger” alert was issued on Saturday.
“In this case, it was a parent with legal custody rights. The delay in returning the children, while concerning, is not in itself an indication of abduction,” said State Police spokesman Chris Loftis. He acknowledged the system’s failure, stating: “Obviously, it didn’t work this time. We have three children dead.”

Authorities are now working with the U.S. Marshals to find Decker. A reward of up to $20,000 has been offered for information leading to his arrest.
Decker, who is homeless and separated from the children's mother, was known to stay at area campgrounds and hotels with his dog, according to police. He picked up the girls on Friday and was later seen over the weekend on the west side of Leavenworth, prompting a police operation in the wooded areas surrounding the town, according to NCWLIFE.
The Washington State Police Criminal Investigation Team arrived Monday to search Decker's truck and the surrounding area. The process is expected to be completed today.
Decker is a former U.S. Army soldier who most recently served in the State National Guard. According to authorities, he had not participated in mandatory military training for more than a year and was in the process of being discharged.
