French and German media report that French police have arrested three Serbian citizens in Juan-les-Pins, on the Côte d'Azur, who had spray-painted several buildings in Paris on Saturday night.
They had defaced the Holocaust Museum, the facade of a popular Jewish restaurant in the Marais district, and the exterior walls of three synagogues. The Serbs were preparing to leave the country when they were arrested by French police.
They are suspected based on analysis of phone conversations, as well as surveillance camera footage obtained over the weekend. The footage shows a man dressed in black and two other men, one of whom sprayed a wall with green paint while the other filmed him.
The spraying was strongly condemned by French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.
The German newspaper "Süddeutsche Zeitung" writes: "It is still not known what the three Serbs have told investigators since their arrest on Tuesday night about their motives and perhaps even their orderers. Investigators are currently analyzing their phone records, conversations and possible money transfers."
In France, however, it is thought to be another attempt at political destabilization and interference, likely directed by Russia. (…) Apparently, the act aims to fuel the political tensions that have been simmering in France since the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023 and during the Israeli strike on Gaza.”
