In Merdare, a few minutes after midnight, the first entry/exit document for a citizen of Serbia was issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kosovo.
The Minister of the Interior in Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla, has said that this decision will continue to be implemented "until all the barricades are removed and the freedom of movement of citizens and goods is ensured".
"At the moment of removal of all barricades and obstacles, this decision will be suspended until September 1, 2022", he said through a post on Facebook.
The barricades were put up on July 31 by local Kosovo Serbs, as a sign of dissatisfaction with the decision of the Kosovo Government on June 29 regarding car license plates issued by the Serbian authorities with the acronyms of the cities of Kosovo and entry/exit documents for Serbian citizens when enter one of the border points in Kosovo.
The government of Kosovo has postponed the implementation of the decisions - which were planned to be implemented from August 1 - saying that it strongly condemns the blocking of the road in the north of Kosovo.
"Prime Minister Kurti together with President Osmani and Deputy Prime Ministers Bislimi and Gërvalla have developed contacts and meetings with American and European international factors. On this occasion, the Government of Kosovo pledges to postpone the implementation of the two decisions dated June 29, 2022, until September 1, 2022, from the moment on Monday, August 1, 2022, when all barricades will be removed and established complete freedom of movement on all roads in the north of Kosovo", it was said in the announcement of the Government.
The American ambassador in Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, asked the Government of Kosovo on Sunday to postpone the implementation of the decisions for 30 days.
