The United States of America has blacklisted another important figure from the Western Balkans region. It is about the businessman from North Macedonia, Jordan (Orce) Kamchev.
Kamchev has been accused of a number of major corruption cases in North Macedonia, including the "Parcela" case for the illegal purchase of a piece of land, as well as in several other court proceedings.
He was arrested in 2012, but was released on bail of 11 million euros.
"Today, the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated an individual, Jordan "Orce" Kamcev, to North Macedonia pursuant to Executive Order (EO) 14033. Today's designation underscores the commitment the United States' ongoing commitment to promote accountability for individuals and entities that undermine or threaten the stability of the Western Balkans through corruption and other destabilizing behavior," the US Treasury Department said.
"Mr. Kamchev abused his position, engaging in corrupt activities and pursuing a selfish agenda at the expense of the democratic institutions and citizens of North Macedonia," stated Treasury Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Brian E. Nelson.
According to the Treasury Department, businessman Jordan "Orce" Kamchev (Kamchev) has engaged extensively in corruption, including abuse of office, money laundering and other offenses for more than a decade beginning in the early 2000s. In 2022, Kamchev was convicted in the "Vodno Land Plots" trial for participating in a money laundering scheme related to an illegal land purchase. In a separate trial, Kamchev pleaded guilty to gross abuse of office in the "Empire Case," in which he was suspected of criminal association, fraud, money laundering, and other crimes related to his businesses.
Further in the notification of the Treasury Department it is stated:
Today, OFAC designated Kamcev pursuant to EO 14033 for being complicit in, or directly or indirectly involved in, corruption related to the Western Balkans, including corruption by, on behalf of, or otherwise associated with a government in Western Balkans, or a current or former government official at any level of government in the Western Balkans, such as misappropriation of public assets, expropriation of private assets for personal gain or political purposes, or bribery.
