The Trump administration is preparing for a possible response from Iran, and the next 48 hours are considered particularly worrying. The news is reported by American television NBC, citing two Defense Department officials and a senior White House official.

Officials have stressed that it is not clear whether the potential retaliation will occur in territories abroad, within the US, or both, but measures are being taken for all scenarios.

Two officials involved in military planning said earlier this week that Iran already has a plan ready to strike American bases and resources in the Middle East if the situation warrants it.

US military bases and resources have been on high alert for months, but after the outbreak of conflict between Israel and Iran on June 13, concerns have increased even more. According to US officials, there is a real risk of attacks on US interests, both from Iran itself and from its allied groups in the region.
