Macron calls Iran's president: You can never have nuclear weapons

French President Emmanuel Macron has received a phone call from his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian.

Macron said he had agreed to speed up negotiations between European powers and Iran over its disputed nuclear program.

"I am demanding: Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons and it is its duty to provide every guarantee that its intentions are peaceful."

"I am convinced that there is a way out of war and to avoid greater risks. To achieve this, we will accelerate the negotiations led by France and its European partners with Iran," Macron wrote in a post on social media.
