Iran's Foreign Ministry says the US has started a "dangerous war against Iran" by striking the country's nuclear facilities on Sunday, according to a statement distributed by the semi-official Iranian Tasnim news agency.
"The world should not forget that it was the United States that, in the midst of a diplomatic process, betrayed diplomacy," the foreign ministry statement said. Describing Israel as "genocidal and illegal," the statement accused the US of launching "a dangerous war against Iran."
She says the attacks constitute a violation of the UN Charter and international law, and that the US government "bears full responsibility for the grave consequences and punishments of this heinous crime."
The ministry warned that it is "Iran's legitimate right to fully and resolutely oppose the US military aggression and the crimes committed by this outlawed regime, and to protect Iran's security and national interests by all necessary means."
She called on the UN and its bodies, including the International Atomic Energy Agency, to “immediately address this flagrant and criminal act of illegality.” She also demanded that the UN Security Council convene an emergency session to condemn the attacks.
