Richard Grenell: God is preparing us for the return of Hashim Thaçi

The United States Special Presidential Envoy for Special Missions, Richard Grenell, has reacted to the dissolution of the Kosovo Assembly by President Vjosa Osmani. He described the announcement of new elections as “good news” and linked it to the return of former President Hashim Thaçi to the country.

"Excellent news. God is preparing us all for the return of Hashim Thaçi to Kosovo. Thaçi for Prime Minister," Grenell wrote on the X platform.

The dissolution of the Assembly occurred after the failure of the session to elect the president, where 80 deputies were not present.

Parliament Speaker Albulena Haxhiu said that the process could not continue and has addressed the Constitutional Court to suspend the constitutional deadlines for electing the president.

Grenell previously served as the envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue during 2019–2021. Meanwhile, former President Hashim Thaçi and his associates Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi, and Jakup Krasniqi are indicted for war crimes in The Hague.

The Specialized Prosecutor's Office has requested 45 years in prison for each, while the defendants have pleaded not guilty. The court has three months to issue a final decision.
