Pressure from allies in government? Netanyahu opposes the US proposal for a
Joe Biden and Benjamin Netanyahu

Benjamin Netanyahu opposes the United States' proposal for a cease-fire in Gaza. This is what the prestigious "Financial Times" points out.

Citing internal war cabinet sources, the "Financial Times" points out that Netanyahu is under great pressure from his far-right allies.

Israel's war cabinet convened for tough talks on the potential deal, but officials close to Netanyahu made clear that any deal to permanently halt fighting in Gaza would be unacceptable.

With pro- and anti-deal coalition partners threatening to quit the government, Netanyahu's office issued two carefully worded statements over the weekend stressing that Israel will continue its military campaign until Hamas is destroyed and all Israeli hostages are freed.

Netanyahu's stance was in stark contrast to U.S. President Joe Biden, who in a speech on Friday opposed all three of the war's objectives while personally endorsing the terms of an organized cease-fire deal that he bluntly described as "a proposal Israeli".

"The content of Biden's speech was a big surprise to the Israeli government," sources told the Financial Times. Israel under Netanyahu would not agree to end the war and would continue to fight until all of its war goals were achieved, they added.

Ophir Falk, Netanyahu's top foreign policy adviser, acknowledged that Israel had previously agreed to the proposal made public in Biden's "political speech," but added that it was "not a good deal" as described.

"Biden's proposal for an agreement has received our agreement. It's not a good deal, but we really want the hostages all released. There are many details to work out. "The Israeli conditions, including the release of the hostages and the destruction of Hamas as a genocidal terrorist organization, have not changed," stated Ophir Falk.

The crisis within Netanyahu's ruling coalition has not affected the continuation of the bombing of Rafah. In the last 24 hours alone, 12 victims, mostly women and children, were reported in Rafah, in the southern area of the Gaza Strip.
