European Front parties, led by the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), adopted a statement against "mono-economic governance" in North Macedonia in Tetovo on Sunday.
DUI Chairman Ali Ahmeti said the new parliamentary majority between the winning VMRO DPMNE party and the COALITION OF WORTH, which consists of four Albanian parties, "does not represent the legitimacy" of Albanians from the May 8 parliamentary elections.
VMRO DPMNE and the COALITION ARE EXPECTED to form the new Macedonian government in the coming weeks.
In the May elections, the European Front – which comprises four parties of other entities – won 18 deputies, four more than the 2016 election.
Ahmeti claims that in the elections in North Macedonia the contest is held between the two largest ethnic groups and that the winners of the elections of the Macedonian and Albanian communities should form new institutions.
"We asses the ineffability of the implementation of consensual democracy in accordance with the spirit of the Ohrid Agreement and the Constitution of North Macedonia... The coalition partners should be determined by the political will of the two largest communities in the country, Albanians and Macedonians, as well as legitimate representatives of other communities expressed in free, fair and democratic elections. This is a customary right implemented in our country, which enables legitimacy, functional democracy, social cohesion, consensuality and fair representation in decision-making," Ahmeti said, reading the statement adopted by the European Front parties.
But WORTH says that DUI cannot claim to legitimacy of the Albanian vote, as four other entity parties in North Macedonia also won votes on behalf of the coalition in the parliamentary elections.
"The lack of legitimacy enables the repression of ethnic hegemony and represents humiliation to Albanians, Turks, Roma, Bosniaks and others. This monoethnic majorization violates the legitimacy of other ethnic communities, burdens coexistence, democracy and should not be allowed by all of us together," Ahmeti said.
He said that by disrespecting "the legitimacy of the vote means turning back, undoing the achievements of the common so far" and urged that this not happen because as he said "we all share responsibility for peace, security, stability of our country and region.".
The DUI chairman said the declaration signed Sunday by the European Front "will be sent to international deployment centers, Brussels, Washington, London, Paris, the countries of the region, with the aim of increasing attention on what direction the Ohrid Agreement reached by sacrifice and blood in North Macedonia is being jeopardized".
In North Macedonia until 2017 there was an unwritten rule that governments be formed by the winning Albanian and Macedonian parties, regardless of their programming orientations.
The Democratic Union for Integration, as the winner of the elections among Albanians, was part of the Government, both with SDSM and VMRO DPMNE, who won the elections to the Macedonian electorate.
