Pope Francis message to the faithful: The atrocities of war break the longing
Pope Francis

At midnight on Saturday, Pope Francis held the Easter Mass, which lasted more than 2 hours in St. Peter's Basilica, one of the longest services in the Catholic liturgy, amid renewed concerns about the state of health of the 87-year-old.

Francis called on the faithful to rejoice despite political crises or personal and global concerns. Specifically, he mentioned the ruthlessness of hatred and the cruelty of war, which break the longing for world peace, but also selfishness and indifference.

About 6,000 people attended the celebration to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ in St. Peter's Basilica. According to Francis, Easter should encourage people and give them hope: "This is the power of God: the victory of life over death, the triumph of light over darkness, the rebirth of hope amid the ruins of failure."
