A refrigerated truck loaded with hashish was among the vehicles on the Morandi bridge in Genoa on August 14, 2018, when part of it collapsed.

The 'Ndrangheta and the Camorra then tried to recover the hashish truck. These are the details that emerge from the "Blu notte" operation of the DDA Reggio Calabria that led to the arrest of 47 people.

In the intercepts, according to what Italian media reports, two of the suspects talk about how to get hold of the truck through connections in the world of scrap metal recovery.

The conversation intercepted by the police in March 2020 took place between the boss of the Bellocco di Rosarno clan, Francesco Benito Palaia, and his right-hand man Rosario Caminiti.

Both refer to a yellow refrigerated truck involved in the collapse of the Morandi Bridge. The value of the narcotic plant reached millions of euros after it was loaded with 900 kg of cannabis, which according to the investigators was intended for "criminals from Campania".

In the intercepts, Palaia can be heard explaining to Caminiti: "So, when the Morandi bridge collapsed, if you go to the first video, a van fell. It's a yellow cargo, you can see very well that it's yellow, with a refrigerator... It fell horizontally. As the bridge fell, a car automatically fell on top of it."

We recall that a 210-meter-long part of the bridge collapsed on August 14, 2018, during a storm, killing 43 people.

The collapse led to the declaration of a year-long state of emergency in the Liguria region, an extensive analysis of structural problems and the division of responsibilities.

The remainder of the original bridge was demolished in June 2019 and the replacement bridge, "Genova-Saint George" was inaugurated a year later.
