French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that Paris is concerned about Kosovo's unilateral actions, which, as he stressed, do not give a good signal.
"I have had the opportunity to reiterate on several occasions that normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina is part of the rapprochement with the European Union, an integral part, this is what we have talked about a lot in some capitals of Europe and this issue will be resolved without compromise by both sides and consequently, if there is no political courage to reach a solution. In this sense, I would like to congratulate the competent Serbian authorities for the decisions taken at the end of last year to start implementing the Ohrid agreements," Macron said.
The President of France stressed that they are for the formation of the association of Serb-majority municipalities, while adding that the EU will continue to support efforts to normalize relations between Serbia and Kosovo.
"We said with our European partners how concerned we are about Kosovo's recent unilateral moves, which do not bode well. Rest assured that France will continue to carefully monitor the conditions in which the Serb community lives in Kosovo and in this context we are particularly committed to the formation of the association of Serb majority municipalities. But my message today is above all a message of determination and confidence – we will continue to support the efforts invested in European mediation to achieve progress in normalizing relations between Serbia and Kosovo, which is of key importance for the entire Western Balkans region. "In this way, your relations with all partners will improve, we will have free movement of residents and we will have a better life for all your citizens," Macron said.
