The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has now spoken about the meeting he had last week with the head of the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, who stopped in Pristina after two surprise visits to Bosnia Herzegovina and Serbia.

The head of the Kosovar executive described the meeting as quite constructive, and as evidence of the commitment of the United States of America to security in Kosovo.

"The meeting went very well. Of course we have cooperation with the US and this important institution of intelligence and security through our Intelligence Agency. I thank the head of the CIA for visiting our country, and this is further evidence of the commitment of the United States to the security and prevention of any security threats to our republic within the framework of bilateral relations with the United States and peace and stability and regional security in the Western Balkans", was Kurt's comment.

Burns stayed for two days in Kosovo, during which time he held meetings with the heads of state and those of the local intelligence services.

However, the meeting with Kurti was received with particular concern, as it came at a time when, through the American ambassador in Pristina, Washington has shown dissatisfaction with his movements, especially the decision to open the bridge over the Iber River without coordination with the Western allies. Jeff Hovenier bluntly stated that opening the bridge in Mitrovica at this time could endanger American soldiers, and that the US felt challenged by Kurti.

However, the government in Pristina insisted on describing the visit of the head of the CIA to Pristina as an "important historical moment" in the relations between Kosovo and the USA.
