The deadline for converting the licenses issued by the Serbian authorities with those of the Kosovo authorities has ended, and according to the media in Pristina, from today, the fines for drivers who have not made this change begin.
Five months after completing the re-registration of vehicles from Serbian to Kosovo license plates, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kosovo started the process of changing the licenses.
The drivers were given a term of three and a half months for this. Initially, a period of time was set from May 9 to August 9, and then the Ministry of Interior extended the replacement process until August 23.
This deadline expired on Friday, so from today, drivers, especially in the north of Kosovo, where there are more such documents, will no longer be able to use their cars with Serbian documents, which are already considered illegal. It is not yet known what the fines in question will be, while the ministry itself claims that they will be determined by the court.
According to the sakaq law, the fine can range from 500 to 1,500 euros. The process of changing patents so far is considered to have continued without problems, and over 6,300 documents have been changed during this period. The Kosovo authorities do not recognize the documents issued by Serbia for the cities of Kosovo. However, in some cases they have been tolerated, because the process of integration of Serbs into the Kosovo system has not been fully completed.
