" The justice institutions have completely failed " to protect the life of the pregnant woman, assesses the external lawyer of the Kosovo Women's Network, Fitim Gashi.
Hamide Magashi, 35 years old, was allegedly killed by her husband, Sokol Halili, on November 30, in the courtyard of the Gynecology Clinic at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo, in Pristina.
The police published the name and photo of the suspect for the murder, who is still on the run, and asked for the help of citizens to "provide information that would help in his arrest".
Reacting after the murder, the Minister of Justice of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, said that it is " a consequence of institutional irresponsibility ".
The Basic Court in Ferizaj confirmed that a protection order was issued for the woman, now deceased, from September 13, 2022 to March 13, 2023, following the request that the victim herself submitted on September 8.
On September 23, 2022, the Basic Court of Ferizaj, by judgment, declared the defendant SH (Sokol Halili) guilty of the criminal offense: unauthorized ownership, control or possession of weapons. He was fined.
But, in advance, on August 10, this court filed the indictment against the defendant SH for the criminal offense: threatening his wife.
The defendant pleaded not guilty and filed a motion to dismiss the indictment and challenge the evidence. On November 19, the court rejected the defendant's request by ruling./ REL
