"Can you have some mercy?" WHO chief calls on Israel to stop attacks on Gaza: You can't use food as a weapon.

The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, called on Israel to show mercy and stop using food and medical supplies as weapons in the conflict in Gaza.

He stressed that the war was harming Israel itself and would not bring a permanent solution.

At the WHO annual assembly, Ghebreyesus said:

"You can imagine how people are suffering. It's really wrong to use food as a weapon. It's very wrong to use medical supplies as a weapon."

According to international media, the United Nations began distributing aid to Gaza yesterday, with about 90 trucks crossing the border to support civilians in need.

The WHO chief also stressed that only a political solution can bring about lasting peace. He appealed:

"Please, can you have mercy? It's good for you and it's good for the Palestinians. It's good for humanity."
