This morning the padishah got up nervously. "A group that wanders around Tirana with the mission of saving Albania from the capitalist plague" had managed to start a chain of reactions among Albanian citizens and opinion makers who oppose the construction of the next concrete monster in the center of Tirana. In addition to the grief of many citizens who will eat dust for at least seven years, the media that is under their control, and journalists who have served them for years, also began to act. What should have passed as a silent crime against the city and citizens turned into a crime where the future victims protest, even scream, in the middle of August, when the defendant went on vacation. "Quarrat milet!"
The frowning Padishah had never reacted like this, with an entire editorial written in a blurb, not when he was pelted with eggs in the yard of the Faculty of Social Sciences, not when tens of thousands of students blocked Durrës Street, not when thousands of citizens gathered under the palace with the case of crazy price increases. Something has bothered him more than usual: the attempt to destroy a dream, the realization of which will turn him into the richest man in the Balkans and, in his incurable delirium, will simultaneously make him the most important figure in history of Albania. "How dare these jesters?!"
Our Padishah is Western in propaganda. In order to justify the highest monster of the Balkans, an international competition was referred to, with a dubious jury, with Danish firms, with thousands of engineers, and even with an Albanian who was amazed by the justice of the king. However, the tower, even if it is the most beautiful in the history of towers, will not rise in the desert, like the pyramids of its imaginary predecessors, but in the middle of a city with an increasingly unaffordable urban density. In this sense, the discussion on architectural beauty hides the fact that the city and citizens of Tirana will have one less park, will be poisoned for years by dust and particles dangerous to life and health, will see more and more pieces of narrow sky - imprisoned in a city that rises up, intensifies in the center,
Our Padishah is a visionary. A thief, but a visionary. The most delusional of thieves, the most dangerous of visionaries. That's why he sees himself as the Faust of our days, who will bring civilization to the plains of Kurrkund, will cast the light of shopping centers on the houses of the poor. Unlike Faust, who raised dams to gain land, our Padishah seizes land to build towers. Always in the name of progress. For his projects, he is ready to sacrifice everyone and everything, like Faustus, the two old men whose hut overshadowed his palace. Yes, he saw the conscience of a Faust, he saw the tragic confrontation of that era between modernization and social inertia, but like a codosh big in body and small in character, who is trying to put all the eggs in one basket.
Afarmendsh Padishah cannot be a visionary if he does not envision a great alliance of evil that starts with the TOGETHER Movement and ends with his courtiers who have put their little toe outside the fence. We bats are many. Surprisingly, for the first time in his political history, even at the time when our Padishah was a newspaper writer, "Non Grata" is not mentioned in the ranks of bats that come before the eagle, said Sali Berishë. This time it was playful. No one has accused anyone. It doesn't even smell at all. "Long live the tower that will keep standing for some time the scarecrow with which we scare our traditional voters!"
Our occidental-speaking padishah knows well the importance of private property and contracts between private individuals. So he uses the practice of exchanging watermelons and 500 lek to justify occupying a park. "Agreement between private individuals!" Okay, okay, right there was a park, public space. Are you sure that the land belongs to a real owner or is it the next rentier? Even if it is private property, what prevents the state from returning the land to public ownership to make it a flower garden?! The law allows it, public interest and health require it. But no one in the pyramid of power comes to mind. Because no one benefits from building a park. The citizens benefit, but they are nobody in the eyes of the king. We take the reasoning even further and imagine a state that does not have the money to compensate the land owner according to the law. But why is permission given for the tower and not, by the way, for a tennis court built with the money of the land owner, where the latter would earn as a small entrepreneur and not, as the plaintiff claims, half of the tower?! "Why are you scratching my head?! We want to make money, you have your mind on humanity."
If anyone had a grain of doubt about the Padishah's vision for development, after his bed-pillow-mattress reaction it is clear what he aims for and what he will achieve if we leave him in power for a long time. For him, towers are the same as schools, hospitals and roads - signs of the inevitable progress of civilization. Someone would say that there are plenty of cities in Europe that are highly developed but have no towers, or at least no towers in the historic city center. "Big deal! Look at Manhattan!” - the prince would answer without a good night's sleep, having seen himself in a dream like Robert Moses. Yes, Moses, this controversial figure of modernism, really demolished single-story houses and erected gigantic buildings in New York, but at the same time he opened new beaches, built wide roads, bridges, tunnels, etc. While our padishah and his satraps are not able to finish the ring of the city. Only tower, tower and tower, all in the center, closer and closer to each other, without roads and adequate infrastructure all around, without parks and recreational areas. Only concrete, dust and scaffolding. The tower not only as a development model, but also as a development engine. This is how the bad guy lies to himself, without thinking too much that the construction sector is the engine of (bad) development only in countries where the savages in power have destroyed any potential for the development of agriculture, the service industry, dirty money must be curbed and speculation flourishes . "Forward!" Only concrete, dust and scaffolding. The tower not only as a development model, but also as a development engine. Padishah is disturbed by something more than that. Today is not the end of the city's drainage process. We are likely only at the beginning of a very long and alienating process. "You ain't seen nothing yet!" He tells us himself: "The next tower will definitely appear, as another fruit of passion and perseverance for Albania." With today's decree, the Padishah will prepare the ground for what will happen after the construction of the last tower. He doesn't want opponents, he doesn't even want witnesses of his urban ploy. It does not need citizens. He only needs submissive subjects who accept the city's drowning as a matter of course, who change the subject from impotence and in the end are forced to cheer in chorus the achievements of the Padishah. He will put us not only before the fait accompli, but also before the facts that will be carried out with the necessity of the rain falling from above-below. The tower that is being erected today (while I am writing these lines, I am informed that the farmers have started cutting the trees) will not be the last for that park. One, two, why not three more towers can be erected in the rest of the park. There is room for a tower even in the flower garden in front of the Unknown Partisan, where the mouths that announce the evil say that the construction permit is being prepared. Then it's the turn of the Youth Park. Do you remember that a few years ago it was discussed that a parking lot would be built there? Taiwan is private property, right?! Let's get a tower instead! Then a tower at the fountain. If there is any piece of flower garden remaining, it can be used as a decoration of the towers. they inform me that the farmers have started cutting the trees) will not be the last for that park.
As ndonjë pushtues nuk kemi rretheqark.
Padishah will materialize his glory. He has on his head the last tower, the highest in the world, on the top of which, like in the Palace of Soviets that failed to be built in the Moscow of the Stalinist era, will rise the monument of our Padishah who sees from the future of bright, under whose feet Skanderbeg lies.
"Hosanna!"
