You who burn forests will most likely not read these lines, because we who write here often write to vent our anger or to show off or to remove from our conscience the veil that (supposedly) covers it, or to justify our inactions, or to justify the seats of power or to oppose those who do not give up the seats of power to us. Or you simply do not deal with social networks and have no place to read them.
But I'm imagining that I have you here in front of me. I am neither a prime minister who takes revenge on you, nor a policeman who arrests you, nor a prosecutor who accuses you, nor a judge who sentences you. I am a Catholic priest who serves in Mirdita. I may have even met some of you. If you were reading these lines, I would simply ask you:
"What are you burning? Why are you burning it? What existential misery is eroding your life inside that you are destroying your life and the lives of others from the outside? Who and what has disappointed you so much that you want revenge? Who has offered you, how much and what has offered you so much that it is worth setting fire to the forests, far and near homes and living things? What makes you hate nature and people so much? Why do you hate your country? Or are you not aware of what you are doing?"
Without expecting any answer, who knows what I would say to you:
"This way you only destroy yourselves and others. The hatred, the misery that drives you, the action you take pays nothing. Those who tell you to burn are unscrupulous people, but unlike you, they have a place to stay, and you do not. Trees do not speak, but by burning they kill your breathing, the shade of the livestock, and the beauty that God has given us to your eyes. Your life will not change by burning a forest, a mountain, on the contrary it will be a real hell. Vent your anger and passion by rebelling against those structures of sin that have taken your life, depopulated your village, killed your future. Neither the plant, nor the oak, nor the beech nor the pine, nor the livestock nor the inhabitants (those few inhabitants who remain) are to blame.
And finally, repent and reflect on what you have done. Tell your "friends" no matter how powerful they are and whoever they are. That way you will save us all. No one will care about you after this disaster when they arrest you and no one will care that the forests return to where they were, no matter how much they promise. Do not allow your misery and anger, wherever it comes from and wherever it has hidden in the darkest corners of your soul, to darken your eyes, mind and heart.
"I know, maybe these are just words thrown around, or just a monologue on a hot summer day, but I imagine you here in front of me and I speak to you without any anger or hatred. I speak to you because I love you!"
