The court hearing regarding the request of the former mayor of Kukës, Safet Gjici , for conditional release for health reasons has been postponed.
The reason for the postponement was the absence of the prosecutors in the case, who are in a training session with the OSCE for the elections of May 11, 2025.
The former mayor of Kukës has been definitively sentenced by the Appeals Court of Kosovo to 3 years in prison for "passive corruption", following the sexual scandal in his office, published in June 2023.
Safet Gjici was arrested on June 24, 2023, following a video scandal recorded in his office where he had intimate relations with a woman.
Initially, on February 7, 2024, the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime sentenced Gjici to two years in prison.
But on June 24, 2024, the Special Court of Appeals overturned the first-instance decision for Safet Gjici, and sentenced him to 4 years and 6 months in prison, but thanks to the summary trial, he had 1/3 of the sentence reduced, ultimately being sentenced to 3 years in prison.
While Alma Kaçi was sentenced to 1 year in prison, Safet Gjici was also deprived of the right to exercise public functions for 5 years.
