US President Donald Trump has said the United States has struck seven Iranian naval vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, as Washington tries to ensure the safe passage of ships blocked in this vital maritime corridor.

The United Arab Emirates and South Korea reported attacks on ships on Monday in the strategic waterway. Authorities in the Emirates also reported a fire at the oil port of Fujairah, following an attack attributed to Iran.

International shipping company Maersk announced that one of its US-flagged ships has successfully navigated through the strait under the protection of the US military, as part of an operation called “Project Freedom.” According to the company, the passage was completed without incident and the entire crew is in good health.

On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that recent developments show that "there is no military solution to a political crisis," describing the American operation as a "blockade project."
