Student protests and the "Yellow Vest" movement have spread to several cities in France, where clashes and incidents have been recorded.
President Emmanuel Macron has called for calm, while by noon the number of people detained had exceeded 160.
To follow developments and coordinate the response to the protests, the inter-ministerial crisis unit has been convened, with the participation of the heads of the Prime Minister's cabinets, the Minister of Interior, and other members of the government involved in managing the situation.
The return of the "Yellow Vests" had been announced on social media since early September, with a call for mobilization on October 17.
The movement, which emerged in 2018 against rising fuel prices and the cost of living, mobilized tens of thousands of protesters on the streets of France by 2019.
The protests of that period were accompanied by violent clashes, thousands of arrests and hundreds of injuries, some of them serious, as a result of the use of weapons considered lethal by the police.
The return of the "Yellow Vests" has joined the protest of high school and university students, which began about 20 days ago in Saint-Denis and Paris, and then spread to the rest of the country.
Other categories of citizens have also been included in the protests, from farmers and teachers to taxi drivers and nurses, who express dissatisfaction with the deterioration of living and working conditions.
Police have broken up two unauthorized marches. The Prefect of Paris Police, Patrice Faure, had issued an order banning protests in several strategic areas of the capital, near the Élysée Palace, the Matignon, the prime minister's headquarters, and the Champs-Élysées.
Meanwhile, the headquarters of CNews television, owned by Vincent Bolloré, who is positioned close to the far right, has also been targeted by protesters.
Around 100 people, with hoods and faces covered, blocked the entrance to the parking lot in front of the building in western Paris, where the offices of the Europe 1 radio station are located, at around 07:00.
According to reports, individuals identified as part of the "black bloc" groups threw objects and broke the windows of the building. Police responded to the scene and arrested 21 people.
