The former Minister of the Interior, Saimir Tahiri, had not yet left the prison cell, when SPAK opened a new investigation for him.
This time, the special prosecutors started the investigation into Tahir's assets, after alerting a second-level bank about a monetary transfer.
Sources from the Special Prosecutor's Office inform BalkanWeb that data is being collected inside and outside the country to trace Saimir Tahir's wealth and to see if there is any concealment or elements of laundering the proceeds of the criminal offense.
The final decision on the sentence of 3 years and 4 months for "abuse of duty" against Tahir was given on February 4, 2022.
Meanwhile, one year and 4 months later, the former Minister of the Interior was released from prison after two forensic examinations that explained why he could no longer remain behind bars for the remainder of his sentence.
In one of the expertises, it was said that Tahiri had health problems.
In the other, it was explained that the former minister's wife is not in good health and as a result, there was no one to take care of the children.
