The fire in Memaliaj

Near the village of Gllavë in the municipality of Memaliaj, a fire that is thought to have been started by illegal hunters in the area has reached dangerous proportions.

The fire has engulfed a massif of pines that is near a residential area.

It is believed to have been placed to lure a herd of wild boars, for which hunting is prohibited, into the trap of hunters.

Currently some villages are in darkness and threatened by fire.

Residents report hearing gunshots and that this is happening frequently recently despite a strict moratorium on hunting.

On the ground are the forces of the Memaliaj fire brigade and the Tepelen and Gjirokastër fire brigades. There were three fires in Gllavë, Luftinjë and Memaliaj village.
