The United States has officially accepted a luxury plane from Qatar for use as "Air Force One," the Defense Department confirmed to ABC News on Wednesday.
"The Secretary of Defense has accepted a Boeing 747 from Qatar in compliance with all federal rules and regulations," Sean Parnell, the Pentagon's chief spokesman, said in a statement.
"The Department of Defense will work to ensure that appropriate security measures and functional mission requirements are taken into account for an aircraft used to transport the President of the United States," he added.
Air Force One is the name assigned by air traffic control for a United States Air Force aircraft carrying the President of the United States.
American media write that unlike Trump's statement that the plane was a "gift", it was the American administration that approached Qatari authorities to secure the super-luxury plane, whose value is estimated at around $400 million.
