Chinese authorities have launched an investigation in eastern China after part of a historic temple in Daulleve dating back to 1375 collapsed.

This is a temple that was renovated last year.

The incident occurred on May 19, when the roof of the temple in Fengyang suddenly collapsed like a tower of cards, just a step away from tourists who were in the area.

Videos circulating on social media show part of the roof collapsing within seconds, creating clouds of dust, as passersby run to escape in panic.

According to the local Department of Culture and Tourism, the incident occurred at 6:30 p.m. on the east side of the temple roof. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Authorities immediately activated emergency protocols, evacuated the area and blocked the entrance. At the same time, a team was formed to investigate the causes of the collapse.

The temple was built in 1375, during the Ming Dynasty, and consists of a raised base and main building.

News of the collapse sparked anger and concern on social media, with many users commenting on the incident as unacceptable, given that the monument had recently been repaired.
