US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned today that Syria could be weeks away from a "civil war", days after US administration leaders met with Syria's transitional authorities.
"In fact, we believe that, frankly, the transitional authority, given the challenges it faces, is weeks, if not months, away from a possible collapse and a full-scale civil war, which would mean the disintegration of the country," Rubio told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Rubio added that the US will allow its personnel in Turkey to begin working with the Syrian government to determine what kind of assistance Syria needs.
We recall that last week, during his tour of the Middle East, the US president met with interim Syrian leader Ahmad al-Sharaa and even said, like never before, that the US could lift sanctions on Syria.
