Holy Synod convenes: Details of the funeral of Archbishop Anastasios Janullatos

Following the death of Archbishop Anastasios Janullatos, the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania announced that the Holy Synod convened in an extraordinary session.

For this reason, a five-day period of church mourning has been declared, from today until January 29th.

The church announced that the body of the late archbishop will arrive on Tuesday afternoon.

Following the reception, tributes will be held inside the Cathedral during the afternoon and throughout January 29th.

Meanwhile, the funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am after the Divine Liturgy.

The Holy Synod also elected the Metropolitan of Korça, His Grace Joan, as supervisor of the Archbishopric.

“The Synod expressed its deep sorrow for the repose in the Lord of our Father and Chief Shepherd, the late Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, His Eminence Anastasius. The Holy Synod also made the following decisions:

1. The election of the Metropolitan of Korça, His Grace Joan, as Supervisor (Locum Tenens) of the Archbishopric Throne.

2. The declaration of a five-day period of church mourning, from January 25 to 29, 2025.

3. The reception of the body of the late Archbishop will take place in front of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Tirana, on Tuesday, January 28, at 4:00 p.m. After the reception, homage will be held inside the Cathedral during this afternoon and throughout the next day, Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

4. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 30, at 11:00, after the Divine Liturgy , the Orthodox Church announced.
