Rama: The Bektashis are disappearing before our eyes, sovereign status does not
Edi Rama

"The Bektashis are a living cultural monument that must be protected by the Albanian state and people ." This was the message of Prime Minister Edi Rama as he spoke at the Jubilee Conference of the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the World Headquarters of the Bektashis in our country.

He once again defended the idea of creating a Bektashi state, saying that just by reading the writings of Albanologist Robert Elsie, every Albanian would agree with this.

"This community is on the path to extinction, this is happening before our eyes. Therefore, the history of the Bektashis is in itself an imposing call to give the headquarters of the World Patriarchate, through a status similar to that of the Vatican, the power of an emblem that will not divide anyone, that will not threaten anyone, that will not question the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Albania, what no one hears... No! Albania is a unitary state, not a federal one. Italy is also a unitary state, but it has three realities within it with such statuses," said Rama.

" Other religious communities have no reason to worry, because this is not special treatment, but deserved treatment of a community that has its world center in Albania. Others would have invented it even if they didn't have it, while we have it and are ready to let it die."
