The Civic Resistance has long raised the alarm that corruption departments are a present phenomenon in public universities in the country, but expert at QQ Mateo Yskollari has conducted a study that sheds light on corruption in our universities.
Through a survey conducted in 12 public universities in the country, the data was also cross-referenced with requests for information addressed to the General Prosecutor's Office and the Prosecutor's Offices of the districts where the Public Universities are located, from which statistics were obtained regarding the number of persons reported, prosecuted or tried for corruption, who belong to academic staff, during the last three years.
The survey showed that 77% of students at 12 public universities in the country confirm that corruption is present at the university where they study.
On the other hand, if we refer more closely to students' perceptions regarding the phenomenon of corruption at the study program or department level, 62.2% of respondents accept the existence of the phenomenon at this level.

No less interesting was the finding that the presence of corruption appears highest at the University of Medicine with 100%, placing it on the throne of the Champion University of Corruption in the country, and lowest at the Polytechnic University of Tirana and the University of Shkodra.
51% of respondents believe that both groups, both administration and academic staff, are equally involved. This signals that these actors of the system are connected to each other in corrupt affairs because the intermediary role between students and lecturers is in most cases played by administration employees.
"Payment for grades" takes the top spot, and this clearly shows us that this form is perceived as the most widespread. This highlights a major concern about academic integrity, where it seems that the assessment of knowledge has been transformed into a financial transaction.
Nepotism continues to be a disease because the survey shows that family ties between academic staff and university administration continue to have a significant impact on the education system.
During the period 2021-2024, SPAK has handled corruption cases involving academic staff at Public Universities, resulting in 2 professors being reported and 7 others being investigated.
From the verification carried out in the prosecutor's office registry offices regarding criminal reports/proceedings and the number of individuals, part of the academic staff of Public Universities in Albania, during the years 2021 - 2024, 18 lecturers were reported for passive and active corruption.
