In honor of the great Albanian writer Ismail Kadare, the Paris City Council has decided to place a commemorative plaque at 63, Boulevard Saint-Michel.

This is the place where Kadare and his family lived for many years and where he created some of his most famous works of literature.

The news was announced by the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in France through an announcement on social networks, where it described this step as an "act of honor not only for Kadare, but for all of Albanian culture."

"The Paris City Council paid a lively and moving homage to the colossus of Albanian letters Ismail Kadare and, through him, to Albania and Albanian culture," the embassy's announcement said.

"By unanimous vote, it was approved to place a plaque with the name and in honor of Ismail Kadare at the address 63 boulevard Saint-Michel in Paris — the place where he and his family lived for many years and where the author wrote some of the most beautiful pages of his literature."

The Embassy expresses its gratitude to France, which honors the genius of Albanian letters.

Ismail Kadare passed away on July 1, 2024 at the age of 88. He is known as one of the greatest figures of contemporary European literature and undoubtedly the most prominent writer of 20th-century Albanian literature.

Among his most famous works are "The General of the Dead Army", "Chronicle in Stone", "Broken April", "Palace of Dreams" and "Concert at the End of Winter".

Kadare's work has been translated into dozens of languages ??and has been recognized with many international awards, including the Prix Mondial Cino Del Duca and the Jerusalem Prize.
