Smuggling goods from Greece to Albania, two people arrested, Kakavija customs officer under investigation (NAMES)

Two people were arrested in flagrante delicto on the "Kakavijë-Gjirokastër" road axis, while they were transporting various goods smuggled from Greece by bus.

The arrested have been identified as Denis Mema and Robert Demiraj.

Meanwhile, Everest Hoxha, a customs officer at the Kakavija Customs Branch, will be investigated for abuse of office while at large.   

During the search conducted on the bus, officers found boxes of various seafood products, weighing approximately 178 kg, 45 boxes of medications, and 159 boxes of shoes of various brands.

The goods and the bus were seized as material evidence.

Police announcement:

Specialists of the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section, in cooperation with the Operational Sector of the Gjirokastër DVP, in continuation of their work to prevent, identify and crack down on criminal activities in the field of goods smuggling, cracked a case of goods smuggling from Greece.  

In this case, citizens DM, 45 years old, resident of Tirana, and RD, 54 years old, resident of Vlora, were arrested for the criminal offenses "Smuggling of other goods" and "Smuggling of prohibited or restricted goods". 

On the "Kakavije-Gjirokastër" road, the Police services stopped the bus that these citizens were driving. During the search, boxes of various seafood products, weighing about 178 kg, 45 boxes of medications and 159 boxes of shoes of various brands, which are suspected of being smuggled by these citizens from Greece, were found in the bus.  

 Following the actions in this case, the materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office where criminal proceedings were initiated against citizen EH, 40 years old, resident of Tirana, with the duty of customs officer at the Kakavije Customs Branch, for the criminal offense of "Abuse of office".   

The goods and the bus were seized as material evidence.

The procedural materials were transferred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Gjirokastra, for further action.
