European Commissioner Marta Kos meets with heads of justice in Albania: We strongly support SPAK

After meetings with political leaders, the Commissioner for Enlargement in the European Union, Marta Kos, met in Tirana on Thursday evening with the heads of the new judiciary.

At a roundtable attended by the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, the head of the High Judicial Council, Ilir Rusi, the chief prosecutor Olsian Çela, and the head of ILD, Artur Metani, the senior union official once again expressed the EU's strong support for these institutions.

"A very good meeting with independent justice institutions, which enable a safe and secure Albania and Europe."

I appreciated their commitment to fighting corruption and organized crime and expressed strong support from the EU for the role and methods of their work, especially for SPAK.

"It is important to engage in building an independent and functional judicial system, but even more so to instill respect for the rule of law," writes Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos on the X platform.

In recent weeks, the head of the EU delegation in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, has been a strong voice in support of the independence of the judiciary, opposing the attacks on SPAK and those against the head of the special prosecution, Altin Dumani.
