The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania is expected to elect a new archbishop on March 16.

The Holy Synod is expected to convene that day to determine the successor to the late Archbishop, Anastasios Yanullatos.

"The Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania announces that the election of the new Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and all Albania, who will succeed the late Archbishop Anastasios, will be held on the Second Sunday of Lent on March 16, 2025, at the Synodal Center, after the Divine Liturgy. The election process will follow the provisions of the Statute of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania ," the Secretariat of the Holy Synod said.

Anastas Janullatos passed away on January 25 after failing to win the battle with the disease.

Janullatos was elected Archbishop of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania in June 1992 and on August 2 of that same year he was enthroned as Archbishop of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, in the Cathedral Church of Tirana.
