Marcelo retires from playing football

Marcelo has ended his playing career. The Brazilian legend has hung up his boots at the age of 36.

Marcelo himself announced the news, via a video on social media.

"My love for football comes from my grandfather. He wanted me to become a professional footballer and I did everything to make it possible. When I was 18, Real Madrid asked me and I moved. I can say that I am a true Madridista," he said.

The left-back, one of the best in football history, played 58 matches for Brazil.

Marcelo joined Real Madrid in 2007 at the age of 18 and stayed there for 15 years.

He left Madrid at the end of the 2021-22 season to join Greek side Olympiacos, but had his contract terminated after just five months.
