Croatian footballer Jakov Jelkic has been found dead in Spain. He had disappeared on February 1 in the city of Alicante, where his team was playing a football match.

After a walk and frequenting a nightclub, he never returned to the hotel.

Although the autopsy results have not yet been released, Spanish police suspect that the death may have occurred as a result of an incident.

According to Spanish media, Jelkic's body was found at a depth of two meters, near a pier in the port, shortly before 6:30 PM yesterday.

The 24-year-old footballer, a member of the Swiss club Granges-Paccot, had played a football match a few days ago in Spain and was last seen after midnight on Friday, after spending time with teammates at a nightclub in Alicante.

When he was leaving the club, he told his friends that he was coming back to get his jacket, but they never saw him again.

He was reported missing on Saturday morning after he failed to show up at the hotel.
