A 24-year-old 'problematic' former British police officer was cleared of having a romantic relationship with a drug lord, after being accused of having an affair with her married boss, 17 years her senior.
Caitlin Howarth was investigated by West Yorkshire Police over her links to the jailed heroin trafficker, as well as breaching the code of conduct at work, but prosecutors have today withdrawn the charges against her.
In a statement, the officials said: "The investigation has stated that it cannot produce concrete evidence for the accused, so she is freed from the charges. Miss Howarth has since resigned from the police force ."
The young woman's lawyers had previously argued for her dismissal from the police force, which in turn confirms that Howarth is still subject to a charge of breaching the code of conduct on duty.
This is after the 24-year-old had a sexual relationship with the head of the station, Daniel Greenwood, married, 17 years older than her.
Even the head of the police who worked there for 20 years has been suspended from duty but with full salary, after allegations of violating the code of ethics at work, writes the British network The Sun.
Former officer Caitlin Howarth, then 21, was suspended from West Yorkshire police in northern Britain in November 2021 for having a sexual relationship with Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Greenwood, then 38.
The link between the two came to light during an internal anti-corruption investigation, which also revealed her close association with a known heroin trafficker who is already behind bars.
Officials initially said Howarth, a probation officer, has been suspended while officials continue to investigate the alleged violations.
Police chiefs had been made aware of Howarth's transgressions, writes local network TheSun.
Greenwood, Bradford's district police commander, has been in the police force for almost 20 years and was sacked after the revelations.
Young officer Howarth, who lives with her mother in Bingley, often posted pictures of herself in inappropriate outfits on social media, where she did not mention her job.
