In a world where sustainability and natural beauty increasingly dominate travelers' choices, Portugal's Praia da Falésia emerges as the crown jewel, topping Tripadvisor's prestigious Best Beaches list for 2024. This impressive stretch of white sand and colorful cliffs was noted as "best for scenic walks and sunbathing" and has risen from number six to 2023.

Europe dominated the other top spots, with Italy's Spiaggia dei Conigli in Lampedusa at number two and Spain's La Concha Beach in San Sebastian at number three. Praia da Falésia, located in the heart of the Algarve region, captured the coveted number one spot, captivating visitors with its picturesque mix of white sand and dramatic orange cliffs kissed by the Atlantic Ocean.

Italy's Spiaggia dei Conigli came second on Tripadvisor's list of best beaches and is known for its sea turtle sightings and diving. Lampedusa's tranquil Spiaggia dei Conigli (Rabbit Beach) is only accessible by boat or on foot via a short path off the main road.

Coming in at number three on Tripadvisor's best beaches list, La Concha Beach in San Sebastian is one of Europe's most iconic and photographed urban beaches, known for its natural beauty and lively atmosphere. Located along the picturesque bay of La Concha, the beach has white sand, turquoise waters, water sports and a long promenade, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

Based on an analysis of all reviews left on Tripadvisor for global beaches over the course of a year, the award reveals the beaches that were most highly rated by travelers who visited. From glowing reviews of dreamy views to unmatched cleanliness to watersports-friendly seas, the award winners offered the best overall beach experiences.

Other beaches in the top ten include Palm-Eagle Beach in Aruba, Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos and Manly Beach in Sydney, Australia. The top three beaches are all in Europe, edging out the highly popular Caribbean from those spots, a sign that some travelers are keen to swap typical resort holidays for the shores of Portugal, Italy and beyond."

In the US, winners span eight states this year, from the northern coast of Maine to the Pacific coast of Oregon, meaning people across the country have access to great beaches within driving distance. However, Hawaii and Florida surprisingly shine with top-rated beaches, and Hawaii leads the way with ten winners.

In addition to honoring the world's best beaches, Tripadvisor introduced a new Sustainable Beaches ranking, recognizing destinations that exemplify a commitment to environmental conservation. From the golden sandy shores of Sandbanks Beach in the UK to the azure waters of Radhanagar Beach in India, these sustainable havens inspire travelers to tread lightly while soaking up the sun.
