Zelensky after phone call with Trump: Under American leadership, peace can be
Trump and Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described his phone conversation with Donald Trump as "positive, sincere and very substantial."

According to him, lasting peace can be achieved this year.

"We agreed that Ukraine and the United States will continue to work together to achieve a real end to the war and lasting peace. We believe that together with America, with President Trump and under American leadership, lasting peace can be achieved this year."

Ending attacks on energy and other civilian infrastructure is "one of the first steps towards a complete end to the war," Zelensky said, adding: "I supported this step and Ukraine confirmed that we are ready to implement it."

Earlier, President Trump announced that the phone call between him and the Ukrainian president was positive and that much of the discussion was based on the conversation Trump had with Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

Putin rejected a full ceasefire during that call, but the US says talks will continue on Sunday.
