Europe appears to be gradually changing its approach to the conflict in the Middle East between the US-Israel and Iran, which aims to destroy the Iranian nuclear program.

According to a statement from the Elysee Palace, France will allow the use of its military bases by American aircraft. Macron also held a telephone conversation with Meloni and with the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The parties agreed to send military assets to Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as to cooperate to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. Macron and Meloni also reaffirmed their commitment to support Gulf countries hit by unjustified Iranian attacks.

However, Brussels continues to hope for a diplomatic option. "There must also be room for diplomacy to break the cycle of escalation. Wars end through diplomacy," said Kaja Kallas. She added that stability in the Middle East requires an end to the conflict and respect for international law, but acknowledged that Iran is trying to prolong the conflict and spread chaos in the region.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has also considered possible military involvement in the conflict. "You can never categorically rule out participation. We have to support our allies," Carney said during a meeting with his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese in Canberra.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin has said it has not yet received a request from Iran for military assistance. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said a united front against war in the Persian Gulf must be created.
