A protest during a hearing in the US Senate ended in tension and arrest after an anti-war activist intervened, opposing US policy towards Iran.

According to the United States Capitol Police, protester Brian C. McGinnis, of North Carolina, was arrested after disrupting a session of the United States Senate Armed Services Committee and resisting officers who were trying to remove him from the chamber.

The released video shows the moment McGinnis stands up and begins shouting against the US military operation in Iran, saying that “America does not want to send its sons and daughters to war for Israel.” Shortly after, security officers intervene to remove him.

During the clash, the protester grabbed onto a door to prevent him from leaving, while officers tried to pull him out. Republican Senator from Montana, Tim Sheehy, a former Navy SEAL, also intervened to help them.

As a result of the incident, one protester and three Capitol Police officers were treated for minor injuries.

McGinnis faces three counts of assault on a police officer and three counts of resisting arrest and unlawful demonstration, according to Capitol Police.

In a reaction on social media, Senator Sheehy said he tried to calm the situation, adding that the protester "came to the Capitol looking for a confrontation."
