Missile towards Turkey, Iran: We did not launch it!

The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces has issued a statement denying that it fired any missiles at Turkey. This comes after Turkey said yesterday that NATO defenses had shot down a missile coming from Iran that was entering its airspace.

"The armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran respect the sovereignty of the neighboring and friendly country, Turkey, and deny any missile launch towards the territory of that country," the Iranian military statement said, quoted by the Iranian Mehr news agency.

According to the Turkish Ministry of Defense, the missile approached Turkish airspace after flying over Iraq and Syria.

The missile was intercepted and there were no casualties. President Erdogan stated that Turkey is “taking all necessary precautions” in consultation with its NATO allies and is giving “warnings in the clearest terms to prevent similar incidents from happening again .”
