A journalist was executed this Saturday by a mafia attack in Mexico.

According to foreign media, gunmen killed the well-known journalist, Nelson Matus Pena, in cold blood inside his car.

The serious event took place in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood, north of Acapulco, where, according to the media, armed men approached the journalist's car in a store parking lot and executed the director of the "Lo Real de Guerrero" news site.

Pena received two gunshot wounds, one of them in the head, leaving his body lying next to his car.

Meanwhile, federal and state authorities implemented an operation to capture the persons responsible.

It is also known that Pena survived two assassination attempts, the first in 2017 and the second in August 2019.

A week ago, Luis Martin Sanchez Inez, journalist of the Mexican newspaper "La Jornada", was found dead in the state of Nayar, a few days after he disappeared.

Journalistic investigations in Mexico of cases of corruption, criminal organizations or drug cartels are dangerous for those who dare.

Since 2000, more than 150 journalists have been killed in the country, according to figures from the non-governmental organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF)./ El Universal
