An employee of the German intelligence service was arrested today by the authorities on the charge of spying for Russia, providing important information, at a time when the war in Ukraine has been going on for more than 10 months.

German citizen Carsten L. was arrested during an operation in Berlin and is now in custody where he will be charged with charges, including treason.

The police raided the suspect's house, his workplace, but also the properties of a person related to him.

It is not yet clear what secret information the detainee has shared, at a time when German authorities say Russian espionage activity has increased significantly since the start of the war.

The Foreign Intelligence Agency will not provide further details about the case until federal prosecutors complete their investigation.
