"We never give up"/ Zelensky in the USA: We are alive and we are

Ukraine is "alive and continues to resist" and will never surrender, President Volodymyr Zelensky told US lawmakers on his first trip abroad since the Russian invasion.

US military aid to Ukraine was not charity, but an investment in future security, said Zelensky, whom Biden called man of the year.

“This battle cannot be ignored, hoping that the ocean or something else will provide protection. Each of you ladies and gentlemen can help implement to ensure that the American leadership role remains solid and enjoys bipartisan support," Zelensky said.

Zelensky's appeal comes amid signs that US support is likely to face greater scrutiny from Republican lawmakers in Congress. But Biden vowed to stay by Ukraine "for as long as it takes." He pledged a new $2 billion aid package and pledged another $45 billion.

Zelensky, dressed in his green sweatshirt and boots, expressed hope that Congress would pass the additional aid. His speech was interrupted 18 times by applause from almost all members of Congress, except for a few Republican lawmakers. Speaking in English, he predicted "a turning point" in the conflict next year. To illustrate the brutality of war, Zelensky recalled American troops fighting against the Nazis during World War II.

"The tactics of the Russians are primitive. They burn and destroy everything they see. They sent convicts to the front line, to war. "Like the brave American soldiers who fought against Hitler's forces during Christmas 1944, the brave Ukrainian soldiers are doing the same," he said.

At the end of his speech, Zelensky presented Congress with a battle flag signed by defenders of Bakhmut, a front-line town in eastern Ukraine that he visited on the eve of his trip to Washington.
