Kosovo and Albania will deepen cooperation in the defense industry, including co-production and joint purchases of military equipment. This was stated by the Defense Ministers of both countries, Ermal Nufi, and Ejup Maqedonci, after a meeting held in Pristina.
"We also discussed the possibilities of deepening cooperation in other areas, including the defense industry, an extremely important and necessary sector for the times we are living in, and in the coming days and months we will work more broadly and more deeply on identifying opportunities for cooperation in this area. We have already signed a contract for a factory for the production of ammunition, we are also coordinating with other partners on the issue of co-production," said Maqedonci.
The Kosovo government has previously said that the factory will be built in Jahoc, Gjakova, while the first production is expected to be released at the end of 2026. Meanwhile, the Minister of Defense in Albania, Ermal Nufi, reconfirmed the pledge that Albania will stand by Kosovo, while assuring his counterpart that he has received guarantees from Brussels and NATO that there will be no change to KFOR's plans in Kosovo.
"Albania has raised security concerns in the region, especially security in Kosovo. We have expressed our concerns regarding the security situation, emphasizing that the security situation in Kosovo is directly a security situation for the Republic of Kosovo and every development and every possible implication in Kosovo brings a concern to the Republic of Albania in terms of security.
"In both meetings, with both Mr. Rutte and Mr. Dragone, it was confirmed that there is no change, at least to date, in KFOR's security plans regarding KFOR's engagement in the Republic of Kosovo," said Nufi.
Nufi was also asked whether he has raised concerns in NATO about arming Serbia with Chinese weapons.
"The Republic of Serbia decides for itself the issue of armaments or how it considers its security issues and how it has military doctrines in relation to security."
Two days ago, Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? said that Serbia would purchase new weapons as it is allegedly facing pressure from neighboring countries.
