US President Donald Trump has approved plans for a possible military attack on Iran, but has not yet given the green light for their implementation, according to reports from Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal.

Trump met with top generals in the White House Situation Room on Wednesday evening, where options for an offensive against Iran were discussed in detail in response to recent Iranian missile attacks, including the strike on the Soroka Hospital in Beer Sheva.

According to the Wall Street Journal, one of the most discussed options is to use B-2 stealth bombers to drop 30,000-pound bunker-busting bombs on Iran's most fortified nuclear facilities, such as the uranium enrichment plant at Fordow.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration and senior security officials are analyzing a range of scenarios for responding in the coming days. An unidentified official told US media that plans are ready and being kept under constant review, while Trump waits to see if Iran will back down on its nuclear program before giving final approval for intervention.

"I might do it, I might not do it," Trump said earlier when asked about the possibility of a direct attack on Iran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is also on the same tough line, stating that Iran will "pay a heavy price" after striking civilian targets in Israel, including the hospital in the south of the country hit by Iranian missiles.

This development reinforces fears of a possible escalation of the military clash between the US, Israel and Iran, at a sensitive moment for security in the Middle East and beyond.
