The President of Kosovo, Justina Shiroka Pula, has decided to return for reconsideration in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo the Law on Amending and Supplementing the Law on Specialized Chambers and the Specialized Prosecutor's Office.

Today, the President accepted the official proposal of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, as sponsor of the law, to give the Assembly the opportunity to reconsider it, especially the provisions related to the jurisdiction and mandate of the Specialized Chambers, as well as the full guarantee of the constitutional rights of persons being tried before these Chambers.

In justifying the decision, President Shiroka Pula emphasized the sacrifice, commitment and contribution of the Kosovo Liberation Army and its leaders in the fight for the freedom and independence of Kosovo. She also recalled her support for the Declaration of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo of 28 September 2026, regarding the verdict of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selim.

The President has reiterated her stance against any attempt to distort the historical truth of Kosovo, to question the liberating character of the war, or to equate the people who fought for freedom and survival with the regime that oppressed them.

In justifying the decision, the President announced that she has conducted and is continuing consultations with representatives of relevant state institutions and entities, with the aim of coordinating inter-institutional and diplomatic actions to document, protect and affirm the historical truth of the Kosovo Liberation War and the role of the Kosovo Liberation Army, as well as to best protect the rights and interests of its leaders who are being tried in the Specialist Chambers.
