The United Nations has said that Ukraine and Russia have agreed to continue the agreement to transport grain from Ukrainian territory to countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

However, neither this institution, nor the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan - who mediated the agreement - have not indicated how long it was continued.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister. Oleksandr Kubrakov has said that the agreement has been postponed for 120 days - according to the demands of Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations.

Russia has not yet reacted, although earlier it requested an extension of the agreement for only 60 days.

This is the second time that the agreement, which Ukraine and Russia signed in July last year, has been extended.

The two countries involved in the war are global exporters of wheat and its by-products, and many countries around the world depend on them.

The war in Ukraine has led to record increases in food products last year, helped by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The resulting crisis is believed to have left 345 million people food insecure, according to the United Nations Food Programme.

According to the UN, the agreement between the two countries has helped to transport 24 million tons of Ukrainian wheat from the ports of this country. It is believed that 55 percent of the shipments are headed for developing countries.

The war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022. The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions. As a result of the war, thousands of people have died and millions more have been displaced from their homes./REL
